Becoming a Volunteer at Unlimited Potential is simple:
- Complete an Application Form and email, fax or mail it to Unlimited Potential.
- UP reserves the right to do background checks on volunteer staff in the interest of the security of participants. Background checks are performed at no cost to you.
- Interview with a UP staff member.
- Selecting a volunteer placement/position.

Volunteer Expectations
DEPENDABILITY: The ability to depend on a volunteer is an essential expectation. Participants and staff look forward to the volunteer’s commitment to report at an expected time and to complete the volunteer assignment thoroughly and enthusiastically.
PROFESSIONALISM: The volunteer is a role model for children and their parents in dress, manner and behavior. Working in a team environment cooperatively with others and demonstrating a willingness to learn are integral parts of professionalism.
CONFIDENTIALITY: The volunteer must respect the confidentiality of sensitive information. Program participants should not be discussed outside the program and school environment.
COMMUNICATION: The volunteer should provide feedback and asking questions is appreciated.
Current Volunteer Needs
If you would like to help with our annual events and program activities, please call UP to find out the particular date well ahead of time:
- OCTOBER: Intercession activities for school-age children
- NOVEMBER: Support Unlimited Potential's Thanksgiving celebration with UP students and their families. Assist with set up, serving food, and clean-up.
- DECEMBER: Holiday and Caroling party
- FEBRUARY: Clean up and project day
- HIKES (ongoing): To lead nature hikes
- APRIL: Family Picnic & Game Activities
- MAY: End-of-Year Celebration

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
| COLLEGE MENTOR |
|
Description |
| Task: |
Mentoring former participants who are attending classes at South Community College |
| Goals: |
Provide one-on-one support to women who have attended UP’s literacy/English classes and enrolled in classes at South Mountain College |
| Activities: |
Help individuals register and sign up for appropriate classes (as recommended by UP staff); call and, if necessary, meet with the mentee every 2-3 weeks to help mentor their work, discuss problems, and/or provide encouragement; provide support and inspiration to the mentee; commit yourself to a one year relationship with the student |
| Time Frame: |
One school year (2 semesters), meeting once or twice a month |
| Location: |
South Mountain College, or Unlimited Potential at 6520 S Central, Phoenix, or the student’s house (as agreed between student and mentor) |
| Qualifications: |
Knowledge of community college procedures; interest and patience to helping individuals with limited educational background; helping students develop study skills; homework monitoring |

| STUDY COACH |
| Description |
| Goals: |
Provide additional support in learning the English language to women with little previous education |
| Responsibilities: |
Commit to at least one day of the week (between 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., except Fridays) to teach English literacy one-on-one, or in a small group, as instructed by UP staff;encourage, support and inspire students in a positive and personal manner; communicate to the staff in advance if you cannot mentor on a specific day |
| Time Frame: |
One month to one school year |
| Location: |
Unlimited Potential at 6520 S. Central, Phoenix, AZ 85040 | |
| Qualifications: |
Advanced knowledge of the English language; experience in teaching English as a second language preferred but not required; positive attitude and compassion about teaching our women participants |

| CHILDREN'S ASSISTANT |
| Description |
| Responsibilities: |
Commit to at least one day of the week (between 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., except Fridays) to assist the children’s teachers in various activities; support a creative, encouraging, and responsible environment; play, sing, read and be creative with children |
| Time Frame: |
One month to one school year |
| Location: |
Unlimited Potential at 6520 S. Central, Phoenix, AZ 85040 |
| Qualifications: |
Love working with children; be a positive role model; commit to one day a week or to special events |
| Benefits: |
Help to inspire and educate the children at UP; improve skills such as communication; satisfaction from helping another; gain insight into issues facing people in other communities |
